Judge's pick - Baseball Graduation

Winner: Andrew from Los Angeles, U.S Prize: Pictar One Plus Why we chose this picture?

The wonderful photograph of a baseball player hovering in the air like a ballet dancer, holding his diploma instead of a baseball, and with his gaze turned directly to the camera, stood out with its perfect composition, precise capture of the moment, dramatic lighting, but mainly because of the almost surreal scene. Why is he hovering? Why did he hold the diploma? What is the story behind the picture? This photograph made us smile and, but most of all - intrigued.

So here are some answers, by the winner himself:

My name is Andrew and I’m an audio engineer/photographer in the Los Angeles area. I pretty much learned how to use a camera by photographing my brother playing baseball throughout our lives. This photo was taken for his college graduation as he wrapped up his 4-year college baseball career at Cal State Dominguez Hills. He played shortstop throughout college, so I asked him to emulate a jump throw holding his diploma instead of a ball. I used a canon 80D and a speedlite just left of the camera.

This picture was taken on Sljeme, the highest peak of Medvednica in Zagreb (snow queen trophy is held here :) . This was the first snow of the season so I was pretty excited about it, as you can see ?

About the photographer and the pic I'm Thony Fontaine, I'm Haitian. I'm studying agronomy . I live with my parents. I really really really like photography. Every day I use my phone to take some pictures. I took this picture on the Péligre dam during the little boy jumping to the water (lake). As you can see there's two visitors in his back observe how he's jumping.
